Artemisia's Gotcha Day

Artemisia was born at my parents house. There was three kittens in the litter her brother a solid black cat that was fluffy like her and loved to be petted, her sister who looked like a Siamese and wouldn't come near me and Arty Mouse who was all tail and while she would come close enough to eat the scrambled eggs, bacon, ham and cheese out of my hand she wouldn't allow me to pet her.

Arty Mouse was the tiniest of the three and was constantly dragging her tail behind her.

I fell in love with Arty and wanted to bring her home but Bo was always saying that Scylla & Charybdis wouldn't like that. I wish I had not listened as I think Charybdis would have loved her, they both loved exploring the outdoors. After Charybdis died in December, I decided to bring Arty Mouse home when we went up for Christmas. December 25, 2009 was the first time I touched her. It was freezing cold and sleeting and she came close enough for me to grab her when I opened the door. She instantly went limp and if it wasn't for the fact her heart was racing ninety miles a minute I would have though she was dead. I set on the hearth with her petting her and talking softly and eventually her heart rate slowed back to normal and when she moved it was to snuggle closer. When it was time to head home I popped her in the carrier that I had sat next to the fireplace so it would be warm and she rode on the floor up front between me and Bo and never made a sound on the three hour drive back.

When we got home we first put her in the garage where the litter boxes are and she picked Scylla's to use and you should have heard the outraged scream later that night when Scylla went to use the litter box and realized "the brat" has used it. After she used the litter box she hid under the shelving so after Bo drug her out we decided to quarantine her in the Master Bathroom with her own small litter box.

I gave her some canned cat food which she refused to eat. Realizing she had never had canned cat food I gave her some dry again she refused to touch it as it wasn't the brand she was use to. Bo fixed her a scrambled egg since it was the one thing we had that I knew she liked and she gobbled it down like she was starving and asked for another. Bo obliged and after she woofed it down she tried to wheedle another one out of him but he refused so she ate the canned catfood. By this point her belly was round and tight as a drum, she waddled over to her litter box used it and came back to finish off the dry cat food. Then settled down in her carrier and went to sleep. My baby was home....................................
